Some highlights:

“Ironically, the billions of dollars we’ve spent on youth ministers, Christian music, publishing, and media has produced a culture of young Christians who know next to nothing about their own faith except how they feel about it.” (emphasis mine)

“Denominations will shrink, even vanish, while fewer and fewer evangelical churches will survive and thrive.”

“American Christians seldom seem to be able to separate their theology from an overall idea of personal affluence and success.”

The article is a fascinating bit of opinion. Read it.

I’m particularly interested in the death of mainline protestant churches and denominations, partly because I’m a member of one and plan on becoming a minister of one. I’m not really scared of the future, but I’m tremendously curious, especially if I can help shape the future (for the better).
